Bank Holiday: Martyrdom of Hazrat Fatimah (SA)

February 9, 2019, is a bank holiday in Iran commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Fatimah (SA) who died at the age of 18 in 632 AD.

Fatimah bin Muhammad was the youngest daughter and the only child of the prophet Muhammad (sa) and Khadijah (sa) who lived to adulthood, and therefore part of Muhammad’s household. She was a wife of Imam Ali and mother the Imams of Hasan and Hussain.

She is the object of love and respect of Muslims, as she was the child closest to her father and supported him in his difficulties, was the supporter and loving caretaker of her own husband and children, and was the only child of Muhammad to have male children live beyond childhood, whose descendants are spread throughout the Islamic world and are known as Sayyed.

For Muslims, Fatimah is an inspiring example and ‘Fatimah’ is one of the most popular girl’s names throughout the Muslim world. Fatimah is a vital character in the religion of Islam and is considered a role model for all Muslim women.
