Iran's annual inflation rate rises to 36.3% in Mordad

Iran’s annual inflation rate reached 36.3% in Mordad (July 23 – August 22), marking a one percentage point increase from the previous month, according to the Statistical Centre of Iran seen by LiT’s local team.

The point-to-point inflation rate for Iranian households stood at 42.4% in Mordad 1404 (the fifth month of the Iranian calendar year), meaning households paid on average 42.4% more for the same basket of goods and services compared to Mordad 1403. This represents a 1.2 percentage point increase from Tir (June 22 – July 22).

The consumer price index for Iranian households reached 370.5 in Mordad, showing a 2.9% increase from the previous month and a 42.4% rise compared to the same period last year.

Monthly inflation for Iranian households was recorded at 2.9% in Mordad. The “food, beverages and tobacco” category experienced 3.9% monthly inflation, while “non-food items and services” recorded 2.3%.

The Statistical Centre of Iran noted that the annual inflation rate range across different income deciles varied from 35.8% for the tenth decile to 36.8% for the first decile. The inflation gap between deciles reached one percentage point in Mordad, expanding from 0.6 percentage points in Tir.

Food prices continued to outpace general inflation, with the food and beverages category showing higher monthly increases than non-food items, contributing to the overall rise in the consumer price index.
