Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art
We cannot miss the oldest Modern Art Gallery in Tehran! The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the world’s great collections of 20th century artwork.
The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, or TMoCA (موزه هنرهای معاصر تهران in Persian), stands as one of Iran’s most extensive art museums. It boasts a collection exceeding 3,000 items, encapsulating world-renowned European and American paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries. Additionally, TMoCA also holds one of the finest collections of Iranian modern and contemporary art.
TMoCA was officially opened to the public by Empress Farah Pahlavi in 1977, a mere two years before the seismic shift of the 1979 Revolution. It is esteemed as one of the most significant repositories of modern Western masterpieces located outside the conventional art centers of Europe and North America.
