The Homa Hotel sits on Khodami Street just off Vanak Square, one of the busiest junctions in north-central Tehran. It opened in 1973 and was renovated in 2018, although the upgrade was uneven: the upper floors and the Homa Class rooms have been refurbished, while the standard rooms were not, so it is worth asking for a renovated room.

It is a five-star of modest size, with between 143 and 177 rooms depending on the source, a pool, a gym, a restaurant, a garden, a business centre, conference rooms and a beauty salon. The hotel can call taxis for guests.

Vanak is a good base for anyone who wants to be between downtown and the north. Valiasr Street runs through the square, the shops and cafés of Mollasadra and Gandhi are close by, and the Vanak metro station on Line 3 is nearby.

Address: No. 51, Khodami Street, Vanak Square, Tehran

Area: North-central, Vanak Square

Rating: Five-star

Facilities: Pool, gym, restaurant, garden, business centre, conference rooms, beauty salon, taxi service

Paying: Foreign bank cards do not work in Iran, so bring enough euros or dollars in cash and change them at an exchange office or the hotel desk. Prices on Iranian booking sites are in rials or tomans and may differ from the rate a hotel quotes to foreign guests, so confirm the price in writing before you arrive.

The Homa Hotel in Tehran is a sensible middle ground for visitors who want a five-star without the size of the Esteghlal or the Azadi. Its smaller scale makes it quieter, and the garden is a pleasant place to sit on a warm evening. Check the latest guest reviews on Tripadvisor and ask for one of the renovated rooms when you book.
