Firouzeh Heritage Hostel is one of the newer additions to Tehran's small but growing hostel scene, in a restored building that is about 50 years old on Mostofi dead end, off Hoquqi Street, in the old centre. It is run by the team behind the Tehran Heritage Hostel in Baharestan.

It offers 33 rooms, with a mix of private en-suite rooms and dormitories. There is a rooftop terrace, a courtyard café, a shared kitchen and laundry, and breakfast is included. Reception is open 24 hours, and the hostel runs walking tours and can arrange airport pick-ups.

It suits independent travellers who want to be close to the old city and meet other visitors. Bookings are on Hostelworld and Trip.com. The Hostelworld listing asks for payment on arrival and allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Paying: Foreign bank cards do not work in Iran, so bring enough euros or dollars in cash and change them at an exchange office or the hotel desk. Prices on Iranian booking sites are in rials or tomans and may differ from the rate a hotel quotes to foreign guests, so confirm the price in writing before you arrive.

The Firouzeh Heritage Hostel is one of the easiest ways to see the old centre on a budget. The bazaar, the Golestan Palace and the national museums are all a short taxi ride away, and the staff can suggest routes on foot. Book through Hostelworld, which takes payment on arrival.
