Indian School in Tehran

Kendriya Vidyalaya Tehran (KV School) is a school formerly run by the Indian Embassy in Tehran’s Baharestan district.

According to information from the school’s website as of 2004, Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, an India-based international school company took over the role of administrator.

The site of the educational institution has been home to two Indian schools in the city from the 1950s onwards and has educated generations of Indians and other foreign resident students living in Tehran.

Certifications

Currently, the school offers educational programs from Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to 12th grade (16 years), which are provided under the jurisdiction of the Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Pass certificates of AISSE (X) and AISSCE (XII) are equivalent to ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level respectively.

According to recent figures, applications from non-Indian students have increased in recent years due to the school being the only English language school in the center of Tehran.

According to the school’s website and confirmation from parents, KV School Tehran also teaches students in Persian (Farsi), Hindu, Punjabi, and French.

The local school hosts children from several countries including the India, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Romania, Thailand, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to name a few.

The Indian Community in Tehran started a school under the name ‘Indian School’ in 1952 to cater to the educational needs of the Indian Community in Tehran. Later, when it got affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, it became ‘Indian Senior Secondary School’ and was managed by Bhai Ganga Singh, Singh Sabha  Gurudwara  Trust, Tehran.
