Tehran expects 116 new electric buses within fortnight as fleet expansion continues

Eighty-five electric buses from a Chinese contract have arrived in the Iranian capital, whilst 116 additional units will enter the capital within the next two weeks, Shahr reported on July 2.

Public transport in the city has been one of the biggest contributors to pollution historically with old buses in the city being one of the worst offenders, along with trucks.  The electric vehicles are part of a progression away from polluting vehicles.

Transport mayor Mohsen Hormozi provided updates on Iran’s electric bus imports, stating that 151 electric buses have cleared customs, with approximately 85 units reaching Tehran. The number is expected to reach 100 units by the end of the week according to current schedules.

A further 50 electric buses are currently being unloaded, with 201 total units having arrived at Bandar Abbas port. Of these, 85 have reached Tehran whilst 101 additional buses will enter the capital over the next fortnight.

The transportation official also addressed the distribution of imported Chinese electric taxis, confirming that the allocation process has commenced.
